SSPC Statement Denouncing Anti-Asian Racism

by | March 22, 2021 | SSPC News, SSPC Statement

In the wake of the recent killings at Atlanta and the worrisome increasing acts of violence against Asian Americans and Asian Canadians, the SSPC strongly denounces anti-Asian and all forms of racism. While there has been a long history of anti-Asian racism and inequities, often obscured by the model minority myth, anti-Asian discrimination and hate crimes have dramatically increased with the pandemic, especially violent attacks against women and the elderly. The Asian communities have been blamed for the pandemic and treated as foreigners. We recognize the tremendous destructive impact of racism has on the safety, mental health, and wellbeing of Asian individuals and communities. We stand in solidarity with the affected communities, advocate for an end to xenophobia and all forms of racism and sexism, and champion for a safe, equitable, and inclusive society.
